The CNN app for Windows Phone is on its way out

April 2023 · 2 minute read

Not everyone may be aware of the official CNN app for Windows Phone, a direct result of not being used by enough people. CNN realizes this and has decided to drop it indefinitely from the Windows Store for Windows Phone 7 devices.

The company is moving to kill support for the app on July 18, 2016. Once this is done, the app will become useless for users who have downloaded it before July 18.

When users access the app after the set date, they should see the following message:

This application will be retired on Monday, July 18.

Is the Windows 10 app the works? This could be true, but we doubt it.

The CNN app is quite old and seeing that few Windows phone owners actually use it, it makes perfect sense for the company to do away with it. Furthermore, the website works just as well but if you’re itching to use an app, the Microsoft News app is a good pick from our experience.

The Microsoft News app comes with several sources including CNN, so users are not restricted to a single view. It works well on Windows Phone, and it works even better on Windows 10 Mobile. This is probably one of the best apps the software giant has created so far for its mobile platform.

Users can also download one of the many RSS Reader apps available via the Windows Store. We have a list of the Best RSS Reader apps on the store, check it out.
