Chrome’s Continue where you left off (CWYLO) option enables users to retain the page tabs open when they last closed the browser.

Continue where you left off is a handy option that saves you from needing to browse through bookmarks to reopen pages.

However, some users have reported that Chrome’s CWYLO feature doesn’t work properly for them.

It seems that in those cases Chrome actually opens more tabs than the ones that were open when closing the software. In other cases, Chrome doesn’t start all the tabs from the last browsing session.

How can I fix Chrome’s Continue where you left off not working?

1. Switch to another browser

If you’re having issues with Chrome’s Continue where you left off feature, perhaps trying out a different browser might help.

2. Turn off Chrome extensions

Click the Customize and Control Google Chrome button.

Select More Tools and go to Settings.

Alternatively, click Remove to uninstall extensions.

3. Set up a new Google Chrome profile

Click the Profile button at the top right of the browser.

Next, select Manage people.

Select Add person.

Enter an account name in the text box.

Select an image for the profile.

Press the Add button.

Switch to the new profile by clicking the Profile button and selecting it on the menu.

4. Open tabs in one window only

Note that the Continue where you left off option only utilizes tabs open in one main browsing window.

Thus, the CWYLO feature doesn’t always reopen all tabs from multiple windows closed at the end of the last browsing session.

Make sure that all your tabs are opened within just one browser window before closing Chrome.

5. Reinstall the Google Chrome Browser

Press the Windows key + R hotkey.

Copy-paste the following path: C:Users(Your Username)AppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser Data

Click the OK button.

Replace Your Username with an actual user account profile.

Next, right-click the Default folder and select the Copy option.

If you have more than one profile, right-click Profile 1, Profile 2, etc.

Select Copy to copy each profile separately.

Next, open a folder and copy the Chrome profile.

Right-click an empty space within the folder and select the Paste option.

Uninstall Google Chrome

Enter appwiz.cpl in Run and click OK.

Select Google Chrome, and click the Uninstall option.

Restart Windows after uninstalling Chrome.

Reinstall Chrome following these steps:

Click the Download Chrome button on the browser’s webpage.

Install Chrome with its setup wizard.

Next, open the folder that includes the pasted Chrome Default (or Profile) folder.

Right-click the Default folder to select Copy.

Open the following path: C:Users(Your Username)AppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser Data

Paste the Default (or Profile) folder back in by right-clicking an empty space within the folder and select Paste.
